Sound healing has remained a staple practice in many cultures to promote mental clarity, physical health, and peace. What makes sound so powerful? Keep reading to find out!

What is sound and how do we perceive it?

Sound is vibrations that travel through the air or another medium and can be heard when they reach an ear.

Our ears operate as a messaging system, picking up sound waves and sending these signals for our brain to identify and respond to accordingly.

Sound can affect our brains dramatically. When we listen to music with certain chords, we smile. When we listen to music with other chords, we cry. We experience a vast range of emotions when exposed to specific sound frequencies.

Sound frequencies are so impactful to our brains and our bodies because they are vibrational. We live in a world where seemingly solid matter is not solid but is vibrating at different speeds to appear as solid matter. Nothing is solid, everything is vibrating. Constantly.

When we understand that our world is made up of vibration rather than solidity, we realize that our bodies are also vibrating at different frequencies.

Now, what makes a body vibrate at a specific frequency?

The body vibrates at either high or low frequencies due to the quality of thoughts we think and the types of emotions we choose to feel.

When we are trapped in negative thinking loops, we often feel negative emotions accompanying our poor quality of thought. This is what a low vibrational frequency feels like. (bad thought = bad feeling = low vibration)

When we nourish our brains and bodies with positivity and love, we vibrate at a very high frequency. (happy thought = happy feeling = high vibration)

Now, our vibration acts as a magnet, pulling experiences, people, and situations into our lives that are in an equal state of vibration. We always experience the mirror of what we are, and to change our lives, to receive more positive and uplifting circumstances, we must raise our vibration.

How does sound relate to this?

Just like our bodies, sound also vibrates at specific frequencies, and we can actually use sound frequencies to influence our brains and our bodies to take on a more positive state of being.

The Law of Resonance is a principle that explains: that when a human brain and body are exposed to a calming/dominant sound frequency, the brain and body will resonate with that frequency and mirror it.

Example: If you listen to binaural frequencies to help you sleep at night, you can sleep because your brain mirrors the binaural frequencies, allowing you to rest and calm down.

You can also change your emotional state by listening to music that calms your mind down because when you are not thinking, you are free to feel content and peaceful.

What’s Next in the Sound Series?

This passage is the first in a “sound series” that I am posting on this blog. The next installment of this series will be all about brain waves and how we can unlock the power of our minds through sound.
